How To Quickly Calculate The Amount Of Carbon Fiber Wrapped Column?

Here is a universal, quick, and directly applicable formula for calculating carbon fiber fabric usage for column, with separate formulas for square and round columns. It's easy to understand and can be used directly on-site.
Core Prerequisites
Full Coverage Reinforcement: Only the sides of the column are covered; the top and bottom surfaces are not covered, conforming to standard engineering practices. Partial Height Coverage: Simply replace the total height in the formula with the actual coverage height.
Number of Layers: Calculated as 1 layer; for multiple layers, multiply by the number of layers.
Usage Formula Logic:
Single Column Coverage Area = Column Perimeter × Column Height
Total Usage = Single Column Area × Number of Columns
Actual Material Preparation: It is recommended to add 5%~10% for wastage (overlap, cutting, and corner waste).

Calculation of Carbon Fiber Usage for Square Columns (Most Commonly Used)
1. Quick Formula
The cross-section of the square column is rectangular, with side lengths a and b, and a column height H.
Expand the perimeter
L=2(a+b)
Area of a single square column
s=L*H=2(a+b)*H
Total area
S=s*N
(N is the number of columns.)
Special: Square column(a=b),so
s=4aH
S=4aH*N
A Filipino client asked: "17 columns, each measuring 0.20*0.20*3 meters. For a single-story, fully enclosed structure, how many square meters of unidirectional carbon fiber are needed?"
Based on the requirement
a=b=0.2; H=3, N=17
S=4aH*N
S=4*0.2*3*17
S=40.8
Add 10% loss allowance for material preparation.
S=40.8*(1+10%)
S=40.8*1.1=44.88 sqm

Calculation of carbon fiber usage in cylindrical cylinders
Quick Formula
Cylinder Diameter: D
Radius: r
Cylinder Height: H
Expand the perimeter
L=πD=2πr
Area of a single square column
s=L*H=πD*H=2πr*H
Total area
S=s*N=L*H*N
A South African client asked: "We have 10 columns that need reinforcement. Each column is 0.3 meters in diameter and 3 meters high. How much carbon fiber do we need?"
Based on the requirement
D=0.3
H=3
N=10
S=L*H*N=πD*H*N
(π=3.1416)
S=3.1416*0.3*3*10
S=28.27
Add 10% loss allowance for material preparation.
S=28.27*(1+10%)=28.27*1.1
S=31.10 sqm
